Can Reglan make you lactate if your milk supply id completely gone? I stopped breastfeeding about a month ago and ever since, my baby doesn't seem to get along with any formula. I want to breastfeed again but I have no milk! Can Reglan make me start lactating again?

Ashley replied: "Along with pumping & offering the breast to your child you should be able to build your supply back up. Be patient. Drink lots of water, have a good diet and KEEP TRYING! Look into a supplemental nursing system. I used one with my daughter. You fill it with formula & tubing comes down that you tape to your breast. Your child is fed from your breast but with formula..all while stimulating your supply. If you are determined enough you can do this! :) Good luck momma!"

Betsy replied: "would also recommend taking either Reglan (10 mg, 3 times a day) or Domperidone (10 mg 3 times a day, increasing to 20 mg 4 times a day after you have been taking it for a few weeks). Both of these medications increase prolactin production and have minimal side effects, but Domperidone is the safer of the two drugs, and unfortunately, is available in Canada but not the United States. Both medications must be prescribed by a doctor. In most studies of Reglan, major increases of prolactin and significant increases in milk production were observed, but when it was discontinued abruptly, the supply also decreased abruptly "

mystic_eye_cda replied: "Reglan will work for some people who have never been pregnant, it can also cause lactation in men. However please be aware that Reglan can cause depression and suicide."

How do I flush the medicine reglan out of my system? How do I flush reglan out of my system.I am having a bad reaction to this drug.I don't like the way that I am feeling.I can't keep my legs still. My whole body feels weird.I feel anxious and depressed. Can some one give me some advice.

Pangolin replied: "Try taking a dose of Benadryl, 25-50 mg. It may be a mild dystonic reaction, not uncommon with that drug."

Should I let my dog eat right after giving her the prescribed Reglan? My dog is on reglan for vomiting, and she hasnt been vomiting but I just needed to know if I can go ahead and let her eat after she has taken the medicine. She has been keeping her food and medicine down for the last 2 days though. I just didnt want a negative effect if she eats right after taking Reglan.

Rosalie replied: "wait a half hour, so it has a chance to work now that you've given it to her."

Vet Tech replied: "Reglan needs to be given on an empty stomach. It is advised to give it a full 30 minutes before feeding."

Obama for President! replied: "I myself have taken Reglan for nausea. I would probably wait 30 minutes or so to let the medicine take effect so just in case she vomits, then she won't vomit the medicine."

Does Reglan really work for gastroparisis? What are side effects? I always feel nauseated after eating. I think I might have gastroparisis. One medication they want to give is Reglan. Does this work and does it have side effects to worry about.

Erica replied: "I've been on it a while now and it helps me a lot. I really didn't have any side effects from this medication."

Can reglan cause my prolactin level to be 104? My prolactin came back at 104. I am on reglan for gastroparesis and levoxyl for hypothroidism. Should I see someone for this? I am on reglan for gastroparesis and levoxyl for hypothyroidism. I am post menopausal. Should I be concerned with this value?

Sar replied: "sometimes reglan can be used for nursing mothers to increase prolactin levels when they can not produce enough milk there is no serious problems if you are not nursing/pregnant, it may just increase your boob size. if your doctor knows the lab value you should be okay"

Has anyone taken Reglan to increase breastmilk production? I just received a perscription for Reglan and was given instructions on how to wean on and off of it over 12 days. Has anyone taken this? Did it work?

mamamia1215 replied: "I took it and it worked great for me. I took it every night for 3 wks."

Biggi A replied: "no but another way to increase you milk is by drinking lots of malt."

mystic_eye_cda replied: "Please be aware that it can cause depression and suicide, be sure that you monitor yourself and go off the meds and get help if you need it. I'm assuming you are in the US so you can't get domperidone. Reglan and domperidone only work if you have low prolactin levels. ?./temp/~F4XtEJ:1 Metoclopramide is sometimes used as a galactagogue to increase milk supply. Metoclopramide increases serum prolactin, but its clinical value in increasing milk supply is questionable. If mothers are provided instruction in good breastfeeding technique and breastfeed frequently, metoclopramide is unlikely to provide additional benefit. In studies that evaluated the effectiveness of metoclopramide as a galactagogue in women who continue to have difficulty producing milk after nursing techniques have been optimized, it was of no additional benefit. Metoclopramide has no officially established dosage for increasing milk supply. Most studies have used metoclopramide in a dosage of 10 mg 2 or 3 times daily for 7 to 14 days. Some studies used a tapering dosage for the last days few of the regimen to avoid an abrupt drop in milk supply after drug discontinuation. No published literature supports the efficacy or safety of higher dosages, longer treatment periods or repeated courses of therapy. Postpartum mothers are at a relatively high risk for postpartum depression and metoclopramide can cause depression as a side effect. Therefore, metoclopramide should probably be avoided in women with a history of major depression and not used for prolonged periods in any mothers during this time of high susceptibility. Long-term uses of metoclopramide also increases the risk of tardive dyskinesia. Other reported side effects in nursing mothers include tiredness, nausea, headache, vertigo, intestinal gas, hair loss and anxiety.[1][2 [...] Possible Effects on Lactation: Metoclopramide increases serum prolactin in lactating and nonlactating women.[13][14] This effect is thought to be caused by the drug's antidopaminergic effect. Galactorrhea has been reported after long-term use of metoclopramide for nausea associated with migraine. The patient was taking 10 to 40 mg 1 to 4 times weekly for about 4 months.[15] Numerous papers have reported studies that used metoclopramide to increase milk production. All studies were small with 40 or fewer patients. Most of the studies have designs that would not be considered valid using today's standards of evidence-based medicine. Many of the studies had no placebo control;[2][4][9][10][12][16][17][18] only 7 studies employed randomization;[1][3][6][11][19][20][21] and only 2 of the studies were clearly and adequately blinded.[6][19] Among all of the published studies, only 5 meet or come close to meeting current evidence-based medicine standards. These studies are described in more detail below. In one early double-blind study, 20 women who had undergone delivery by emergency or elective cesarean section were randomized to take oral metoclopramide 10 mg 3 times daily (n=10) or placebo for 7 days (n=10) beginning on the first day after cesarean section.[3] All mothers expressed a desire to breastfeed their infants for at least 3 months and received daily visits by an investigator to discuss breastfeeding problems and were given advice and encouragement to breastfeed. The mothers in the 2 groups were closely matched except that 3 preterm infants in the metoclopramide group were separated from their mothers in the intensive care unit and were nursed there initially and fed expressed milk until discharge. At 10 days postpartum, there were no differences in the number of infants being breastfed in each group; at 6 weeks postpartum, 9 women were breastfeeding in the metoclopramide group and 8 in the placebo group; and 3 months postpartum 4 were breastfeeding in each group. Although this was a small study, it was well designed and executed. It provided preliminary evidence of the benefit of patient counseling and encouragement on breastfeeding success. Thirteen primiparous nursing mothers without breastfeeding difficulties and normal infants were given either oral metoclopramide 10 mg 3 times daily (n=7) or placebo (n=6) for 8 days beginning on the first day postpartum in a randomized, double-blind study.[19] No attempt was made to improve nursing technique, but mothers nursed on a 3-hour schedule beginning at 6:30 am on the day following delivery. No mention was made of the type of feeding, or the number of feedings that the infants received between birth and the initiation of breastfeeding or any differences in the two groups of infants in this regard. All women completed the trial. No differences were found in serum prolactin of treated and control women throughout 28 days of observation. Milk intake as measured by infant weight change before and after the second daily feeding on days 3 through 8 was greater by an average of 24.3 mL (51.1 m"

loving home school replied: "I never took any medication but I ate nuts. A handful of peanuts or cashews worked for me and produced more milk, also malted milk drinks worked and although this may sound obvious you need to make sure you are drinking enough healthy fluids. I am sure you are - but sometimes when you have a new baby it is easy to forgot to take good care of yourself at times. Good luck and good on you for trying hard to keep breast feeding your baby, it is tough at times, so well done."

how long i can use reglan to increase milk supply? how long i can use reglan to increase milk supply? do milk dry up after stoping it?

T3PO loves the BooJu replied: "1) Your doctor should have told you this. Different for every woman. 2) No. If it did then the answer to your first question would be 'until you stop nursing' which it isn't."

dcsavak replied: "You're supposed to be able to take it for a few weeks, tapering it off, and milk supply should stay high. It didn't work this way for me. I've been on it for almost two months, because my milk disappears almost immediately when I stop taking it. Talk to your doc if you lose your supply after going off."

notthepartyanimal replied: "Your doctor should have talked about the length of time you will need to stay on it. I personally haven't used Reglan. I've used herbs though and they have worked great at increasing my milk supply. My favorite is Breastea. I have heard of women that are taking Reglan using fenugreek or teas as well. You might want to ask your doctor about it."

I took my dog to the vet Tuesday, he gave me Reglan to help with her vomiting. The second time? I gave her the half of a pill, she started acting unusual. Normally she is hyperactive, happy to see everyone. Since I have given her that pill, she has been lethargic, sensivtive to touch in her hind quarters, she shakes, and is just plain depressed. I did take her to the vet again and he took blood samples this time, and he told me to reduce her dose to 1/4 of a pill and to give it to her 30 min b4 eating. He also gave me sample food that I mixed with her old food, because he said that she is vomiting b/c of her old food. I'm not sure what I should do, if I should continue to give her the Reglan or just say F it?? Give me your opinions, they are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

firery_moods replied: "i would ask your vet to do some blood tests, she may have an infection or worse diabetes. if she drink a TON of water and keeps throwin up have the vet take a glucose test and test her urine for keytones, otherwise keep takin her to the vet."

Susan M replied: "Maybe you should get dog food for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Change slowly by mixing with your current food. With all the problems coming to light with pet food, you may have gotten something not fit to eat. Feed her smaller amounts anyway if she has been ill. You can feed a sick dog some plain cooked oatmeal or rice to break the fast after they have been vomiting. Give the reglan if she continues to be ill, but if she still has those side effects, then don't give it. I hope you're dog will be better soon."

laura p replied: "So sorry to hear about your pet . I heard Tagament 200mg Helps .It's for heartbrun and indigestion .You can get it @ wallgreens ...1 tablet every 12 hrs. Hope this helps... My vet also said to boil chicken breast mix with white rice , no salt"

What are some alternatives to Reglan for a 6 month old baby? my daughter has been on Reglan since birth for GERD and I was thinking about asking the doctor if we can try to take her off of it. I have heard about a lot of nasty side effects from it and I was just wondering if anyone has had a baby with GERD who was treated with something other than Reglan.

beetlemilk replied: "my son with GERD has used prilosec since 2 months old, we stopped using it regularly at 18 months, occasionally now we give it to him, he is 2."

Can I take Rolaids the day after taking prescription Reglan? My dr. prescribed me Reglan for my nausea that I've had all week and I only took one yest afternoon. It gave me bad side effects so I didn't take it today. I have heartburn now and want to use rolaids for it. Is that okay? I took a pregnancy test before and it came back negative. I've been feeling nauseous and having heartburn since Sunday and my doctor said it's probably just a bug but i just feel so sick!

JJ replied: "Yes, you can. It would help if I knew if you had nausea due to pregnancy, sickness, general malaise (you don't feel good and you don't know why) or an ulcer. If pregnant, consult your doctor, but for the most part, and product that has *only* calcium carbonate as the 'active' ingredient, you will be okay. If it is due to a sickness, such as chemotherapy, etc. you will want to contact your doctor. If it is due to general malaise, it is fine. If it is due to an ulcer, or a suspected ulcer, you will want to take Pepcid, Zantac, Prilosec or Prevacid. These are much better than calcium carbonate. Take them as directed on the box and avoid alcoholic drinks for a while. You will feel better in a few weeks. If you don't feel better in 6 weeks, go back to your doctor. I hope you feel better soon."
